The Christmas Giving Tree will appear in the foyer on November 16, marking the start of our annual tradition of providing Christmas gifts to children in the community. Building on the success of our partnership last year with Child Advocates of Nevada County’s CASA program, we will again be buying books for the children they serve, most of whom are in foster care. The children range in age from infants to teens. The Giving Tree is decorated with gift tags that specify each child’s initials, age, gender, and subjects they are interested in. Please purchase three books for each child. You can team up with a friend to share the cost and the fun of choosing the books if you wish.
Make it a gift that gives twice! The Book Seller in Grass Valley and Harmony Books in Nevada City are offering a 20% discount when you present your giving tree gift tag at the time of purchase. This way, we can give the gift of reading to a child and support our local independent bookstores at the same time!
Take a tag from the tree and be sure to sign it out on the clipboard with your contact information in case the “elves” need help sorting the gifts for delivery. On Sundays, there will be someone at the tree to assist you or you can ask the Office Administrator on weekdays. Wherever you purchase your books, be sure to keep the giving tree tag to label your gift! The books should be wrapped with the gift tag clearly visible on the outside of the package and must be returned no later than Sunday, December 7.
Please direct questions about the program to Caring@uugrassvalley.org or find a volunteer on Sunday mornings!
